Directory Penalty

I have a few websites which are online directories. After the recent PR update about a week ago. I found that the PRs of all these directories drop to zero.

In fact, I am not the kind of person who cares about the PR so much. What I really are about is the ranking. This gives me the real panic. I found that the index page of one of the directory, which is rank in the first few positions in both Google and Yahoo for my targeted keyword, is deindexed on both search engines.

I have lost a lot of visitor (and of course money). Yet, I am trying to improve my sites. I will add some more articles to the directory and make the directory only part of the website. I hope this moves will help you to get the ranking back.

I will need to work on it for a while and I will see if there can be any improvement in ranking!

I am currently promoting LoveCentria from MoreNiche. In fact, it is a sex guide. There are not many affiliate programs in this niche.

As a matter of fact, I am promoting it along with some other sites which promote some penis extenders.

Today, I found that LoveCentria is not in the member area of MoreNiche. I have asked in the forum and the gentleman from MN told me that becuase there is not much such from the product manager. MN will advise me to focus on other products.

It is important that you do not put all the eggs in one basket. If all my sites are promoting one single product. I have a website which ranks quite well for a certain keyword in Google. But this is not the case in Yahoo! I have checked my website recently in Yahoo! and found that it is not even cached in Yahoo!

Of course I never did anything really black hat but I join some link building programs and it requires me to put some irrelevant links in my site. Of course I cannot be sure that I am penalized because of the outbound links. If this is the case, I will suspect that my site cannot pass a manual check by Yahoo!

I am still trying to find out the reason for the case. But as a little advice, if you are serious about the traffic in Yahoo! You need to pay extra attention to the contents of your site. If there are really manual checks, you will be caught easily!

PR Dropped - No Need to Panic

There are some views recently that the Page Rank (PR) does not really related to the ranking of a site on Google at all.

I cannot tell for sure if it is true. What I have observed is that there are sites with very low PR but they get a very high rank for some keywords on Google. However, this still doesn't mean that the proposition is a correct one. There are too many factors that can affect the rankings.

However, what I suggest is that you do not need to panic if you find that the PR of your websites dropped. You cannot control this anyway. Submission to Free Directories

One of the ways to gain link popularity is to submit your website to directories. There are a lot of different directories out there, some are paid and some are free.

However, there are some keywords which are more competitive and more difficult to rank well. On the contrary, there are some keywords which are less competitive and you may get a good rank relatively easier.

So, how do you determine the best keyword for your website or your niche. Here "the best" means keywords that are popular for searchers but with little competitions. There are basically some ways to research on the best keywords.

2 Calculating Yourself

You can make use of the Overture Keyword Tool to get an estimation of the number of searches in a month for your keyword, you can then simply divide this number by the total number of results shown in Google when you search for the keywords. i.e.

Many SEO companies will stress on the importance of on site optimization, which is to optimize the content in your website.

There is no doubt the the contents are very important. However, it will be better to write the contents for the readers but not the search engine. What will be the use of SEO or getting a first position in search engine if the contents in your website is not catered for your readers.
